Wanda Mandarin Quanzhou has a construction area of more than 50,000 square meters, with 22 floors above ground and 2 floors below ground. It has 322 spacious, comfortable, stylish and elegant rooms, including 32 suites (29 deluxe suites, 3 executive deluxe suites) and a presidential suite with an area of more than 200 square meters.
Executed under an EPC contracting model, the project team utilized BIM technology for full-cycle collaboration between design and construction. Facing an exceptionally tight 9-month schedule, the workflow was strategically divided into three phases: The initial 3-month period focused on original design development for 220 lighting fixtures, including 17 iterations of the grand lobby chandelier that reimagined traditional lantern forms through parametric modeling. During the 4-month manufacturing phase, self-developed modular assembly techniques maintained precision within 0.5mm tolerance for 6,810 crystal components. The final 2-month installation stage employed 3D scanning positioning technology to achieve millimeter-level accuracy for 2,410 fixtures, accomplishing zero rework.
Design innovation centered on spatial storytelling. The lobby's suspended 9-meter crystal installation, composed of 2,350 handcrafted glass pieces mimicking CITONG flower petals, features an intelligent dimming system that cycles through 12 lighting scenarios synchronized with circadian rhythms. The reception's trio of 4.5-meter glass sculptures pushed thermal glass-forming boundaries by embedding LED optical fibers within double-laminated panels, balancing translucency with structural integrity to create rhythmic "breathing" effects that illuminate floral veins at night. Corridor wave-form light strips abstracted maritime elements from Quanzhou's ancient Silk Road heritage, using micro-curved reflection technology to simulate dynamic ocean light reflections.
With 37 process patents and 12 technological innovations, the project successfully translated traditional cultural symbols into contemporary design language. Beyond achieving LEED Gold certification for lighting efficiency, it became the sole Chinese project awarded "Best Cultural Expression Space" at the 2022 Asia Pacific Hotel Design Awards, demonstrating how artistic lighting can culturally empower premium hospitality spaces.
